This study examines the impact of physical embodiment and anthropomorphism of AI tutors on student enjoyment and performance. In an experiment with 56 students using an intelligent tutoring system, findings showed that the physical presence of robotic tutors did not significantly enhance task performance or anthropomorphism, though it initially increased on-task enjoyment. Negative perceptions, such as disturbance and overly sociable characteristics, were linked to reduced enjoyment and performance, highlighting the complexity of AI tutor design in education.
